12 Top Tips to Relieve Stress and Anxiety without leaving the loungeroom!
Start now. there is no time like the present!
- Silence – Just close your eyes and sit quietly. No chat for five minutes – set your alarm on your phone.
- Breath – practice various techniques to slow the mind and heart rate – see Yoga below
- Meditation – combine breath and stillness
- Smile – When you are out and about smile at people. If you are smiling on the inside people will sense it and smile back
- Hugs in silence, closed eyes – a minimum 20-second hug to build oxytocin, the feel-good hormone. Pick a partner, your child, your neighbour, the dog, anyone!
- Sensing your body – close eyes, breathe, take a little journey through your body using any or all of your senses. Take a swim through your veins and arteries, walk around the chambers of your heart, explore the underside of your skin, get totally immersed in your body.
- Prayer/intentions/affirmations/mantras – Gratitude is a prayer, be grateful for what you have. Let go of what you feel that you lack or what you are constantly striving for, just for a few moments. Practice saying “I love my life and all the wonderful opportunities I create each day.” This is a powerful way to manifest. Set an intention each day which is Positive, Present Tense and About you. Use a Mantra and hum or sing it throughout the day. Practise chanting OM in the shower. sounds awesome!
- Massage/stroking – Find a good therapist or practice with a partner. If alone, massage the areas you can reach on yourself to bring warmth and relaxation. It is so beneficial to nurture yourself. You can purchase a head massager or lots of different hand-held options.
