TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises)
TRE is a way of releasing stress, tension, and trauma from the body, no matter how long it has been stored, how deeply it is buried, or how traumatic it has been. It involves a series of guided exercises followed by a natural tremor process. Practiced regularly you will notice more flexibility in your body, a clearer mind and easier relaxation.
You may be experiencing
- PTSD
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Insomnia
- Injury or illness and you want to try some gentle stress relief techniques
- Lethargy
- Cancer
- Pregnancy
- Arthritis
- Bipolar
- Headaches or migraines
- Overwhelm
- Or a host of other issues that mean you are not getting the most out of life
You may want to feel calmer, more relaxed, and more able to cope with what the day brings.
The TRE process may assist in decreasing the effects of chronic stress and unresolved trauma including, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, without needing to engage the mind. Many students who have attended classes say they are constantly telling their story – to counsellors, psychologists, etc and they don’t want to keep reliving their trauma in that way. We don’t need your story as sTREss Away is a somatic (body) process.
You will participate in a series of muscle fatiguing exercises to create an involuntary shaking in the body, usually commencing in the legs. This movement may balance and calm the nervous system (including the body and the mind) in approximately 15 minutes.
Jacky will guide you through the exercises which can be modified to suit just about any fitness level. Then she will take you through the various shaking positions while you lie down and begin to relax.
It works for most people as a way of releasing stress, tension, and trauma from the body. You can learn the process and use it at home as it is simple and effective.
This is what David Berceli, the founder of TRE, has to say in his instruction booklet (Trauma Releasing Exercises 2005).
EASILY LEARNED These exercises can be easily learned and in many cases are immediately effective
NATURAL DETERRENT Under certain circumstances these exercises can be used as a natural deterrent from and reduction of PTSD symptoms, thereby reducing the effects of subsequent trauma.
SELF APPLIED AND SELF DIAGNOSTIC They can be used to self-diagnose the degree and severity of tension and traumatic episodes.
INTEGRATED INTO DAILY ROUTINE They can be integrated into a daily exercise routine as a simple body-based prevention and recovery process.
RESTORES HEALING FASTER The tremoring restores a feeling of safety to the body more quickly facilitating a faster and more integrated healing process.
ADDITION TO COUNSELLING In certain circumstances this method can be an alternative/and or supplement to psychological intervention.
